Garage Door Opener Light Wires

Genie s new led garage door opener bulb was designed specifically for garage door openers to eliminate the problems associated with light bulb usage in traditional garage door opener applications.

Step 1 unroll the low voltage wires on each side of the door from the sensor back toward the genie power head. Wiring a sensor for a genie garage door opener is much like any other opener. After you have it out you will see two wires. However genie uses clips to secure the wires to the opener rail rather than stapling the wires to the ceiling.

Cut this cable so that it extends 18 inches from the ceiling opening. Disconnect both wires and install them on your new light socket. Most garage door opener light sockets will pop straight out by pinching the tab that is holding it in the motor housing. This will allow the electricity from the circuit before the switch to pass directly through to the outlet for the garage door opener.

Basically what you need to do is attach the outlet feed wires to the back of the garage light switch to estabilish a passthrough circuit. Install a piece of 12 2 with ground cable between the ceiling cutout for the light and the garage door opener s motor housing.
